iconatomy

These are pretty amazing collages by George Chamoun, and are part of a digital mashup series called Iconatomy. The Clooney --> Grant, and Portman --> Hepburn ones are especially seamless. I can't even imagine how long it took to pair these images up.

sam falconer

These are pretty fun and kooky illustrations by UK artist Sam Falconer. Maybe it's the noses by their a bit Baldessari no?

This series by Matt Cuscick unbelievable. I can't imagine the time and effort it took to orchestrate these pieces. I urge you to go to his site to view the whole series (and larger images).

Samuel Castaño

I'm not always good at dissecting and explaining why I like something, and I figure it's usually best not to force it when this is the case. Right now I'm having one of those moments. I just like this piece by Samuel Castaño and hopefully leaving it at that is ok. There is however a nice little interview with the artist over on Not Paper worth checking out.

I think had way too much fun working on this. Eyelets are my new obsession, and I can't believe that statement just came out of my mouth. I was a little reluctant to cut up a Polaroid; something about it just seemed really wrong, but I ended up going for it. The teeny tiny vinyl letters were somewhat annoying and I felt like an old woman working in a sweat shop by the time I was done, but sometimes there is pain in pleasure. I'm not sure what you call the device but I was going for a children's book effect. You know... the circle that spins and through a window different words or pictures are revealed. This is part of my "Dear Me" series. I can take a whirl and try out an s. Yes, that's right. My day hinges on what the Polaroid prompts. OK, not really but the range in my actions truly is sometimes that limited.

Collage is one of those mediums that I love, always wish I could do and be good at but, in the end, table. I don't know if it's due to the laziness or real fear of truly being bad at it or what. Romanticizing it, it seems like it would involve a lot of cutting, pasting, and abandonment of control (compared to how I generally describe my style). In other words it sounds like a lot of fun. I really like what Virginia Cheverria does so maybe I can use her work to push me, throwing caution to the wind, and give it a try.
