I LOVE this project which is featured in Frankie Magazine. Grandmothers are asked what advice they would give their 20 year old selves and it's added to a Polaroid photo of their current self. Oh, Betty... you look like a lot of fun!

Look at this cool new Polaroid camera. That's right... NEW. The PIC-1000 doesn't have a price tag yet, and something tells me I'll need to drool over it from afar... but oh I would love to get my mitts on one. I think I'm addicted to aesthetics, or form over function. Or how about pretty things.

goodbye curtis allina (1922-2009)

This may not be common knowledge to some of you, but I have in my possession around 1,000 Pez dispensers. To say I love collecting them would be an understatement, however in these tough economic times my obsession has lately been limited to the occasional dollar store purchase rather than the ruthless and overpriced world of Ebay auctions. It's just as well.

Hearing of the passing of Pez pioneer Curtis Allina saddened me; he is afterall the man responsible for giving the dispensers a face, which to me is the mainonly appeal (I just say no to the candy believe it or not). Thanks for contributing to my passion for plastic and bringing joy to so many.

happy 2010 and other stuff

Hello! It's been awhile... again. The holidays happened and the next thing I know I did not have the time or energy to devote to the blog. Then my computer got some nasty viruses. I doubt anyone has necessarily been clamoring for my return but here I am anyway. I'm not entirely sure where/how to jump back in, faced with ideas of changing the layout of my site or what I post. My head starts to hurt and I simply stay away when that happens. So I'm not sure yet what I want to do. Something tells me I won't be able to give it up, but if I am to continue I'd like to do it right and in a way that makes me happy. I'm probably over-thinking it and that generally gets me in trouble.

So stay tuned if you feel any weird devotion to Recovering Lazyholic. We shall see what happens.

I'd also like to take this time to thank folks that bought items from my shop over the holidays. I really appreciate it and hope you are happy with your purchases!

Last, I don't have any resolutions (much like last year, however I DID get a new phone and feel like I tried harder so mission accomplished) but I have some broad goals. For some reason with me it's all in the phrasing. I want to continue to try harder, to be better, to not let anyone down, and not let myself down. And I'd like to have an art show. Those of you with resolutions, good luck and may 2010 be your best year yet!

When my friend told me the news the other day that Polaroid was coming back I was filled with glee and surprise. On the one hand it shouldn't be that shocking that someone finally wised up and realized there is still demand for the product, but on the other hand it is also a bit amazing that someone is actually doing something about it. It looks like the petitions and all the press the film's demise received helped turn things around.

Now I am not sure what this means for the Impossible Project. According to their site they are moving forward with their own brand. The more film the merrier I say, hopefully returning at reasonable pricing. And now maybe certain websites/retailers can quit with the gouging ($180 for a camera!).

the shop has photography and stuff!

Holy cow, I never thought this day would come. I FINALLY have something for sale in my dusty Etsy shop. I can not decide if this is exciting or anticlimactic. On the one hand I am beyond glad to have scratched something off a list and fulfill a little dream, but I also wonder if anyone will want anything and if I "done good". I don't know... I will think about it later because I am a little bit tired of looking at the thing right now.

To give you a quick overview of what's in there before signing off --

A few 5 x 5 Polaroid prints; 5 selections from the "Want to Need Less" series and 5 selections from the "One Minute Photoshop" series, all of which are 8 x 8 prints; a set of 5 magnets from the "Reminders" series; and last, a silly selection of "prescriptions" ranging from mini lists, to mini reminders, to mini creative exercises of sorts.

I still feel a bit unsure of everything from pricing to descriptions to shipping and so on, but I think it's all affordable, fair, and straight forward... and hopefully stuff someone somewhere wants.

I also will have more things added within the week... large photo prints from the "Reminders" series as well as prints of photos featured on my website (images that are actually letter/word free). Then I can let the shop be and see if people will come. I have to say that I am glad to move on to the next thing on my list, which is starting my "Lazyholic Do's and Don'ts" project and taking LOTS of photos. I have missed you camera.

expired polaroid project

IDPURE currently has a Polaroid project running. The call for submissions is pretty simple -- send them a high res Polaroid image and it will possibly appear in a published book. There is no deadline other than "as soon as any of the projects have enough unique visuals". So... there. They also have a few other projects going as well; check them out here.

So everyone knows by now that Polaroid is dead, or rather in limbo like poor 'ole Nicole Kidman in The Others. It brings a smile to my face however, that even though its ultimate fate still is a bit uncertain (I am eyeballing you, Impossible Project), Polaroid projects and news abound. never ending polaroid project

It keeps going, and going, and going, and going. This is a project that started in 2001 and follows a pretty straight forward yet excellent idea. Take a Polaroid portrait and pass it on. The next person poses with the photo of the person before them, and on and on. You can see the full collection on Flickr.

website update

I added a new Polaroid section to my website. It's not terribly exciting but you can check out the Spring section here.

I tried my best to use restraint but I have officially exhausted the last of my Polaroid 600 film. This makes me sad.

fighting the death rattle

The New York Times Lens blog has posted a nice little follow up story to their Polaroid article from the other day. They write about the possible/hopeful reemergence of the film and asked readers to submit their favorite Polaroid. What they ended up with was a flood of entrees which was whittled down to about 400. There are some really great submissions but best of all it provides further evidence that there are a lot of folks not ready for the film to disappear.

And pardon my moment of self-servingness (and my lack of proper grammar) but a Polaroid of mine is at the bottom right-ish.
