things magazine - part 1

Things Magazine is very interesting and peculiar site/publication, full of art, collections, design, architecture, randomness. It's almost overwhelming; if anything I have many hours I still need to spend in order to adequately discover all the gems it has to offer. Of course my radar went right to the Fuzzy Felt set in the Projects section.  It doesn't look like they have released any issues recently but they have an active Tumblr and Flickr account. And for a little background on their origins...
Things Magazine was originally founded in 1994 by a group of writers and Things has built a reputation as a home for new writing – essays, reviews, short stories and poems – about objects and their meanings.

P.S. Speaking of felt, I want to buy these and hang them up somewhere.

the swedish chef

The master of fine muppet dining. And inappropriate dinner guests.

i love the taste of felt

You might need to wash these down with a gallon of water or three. Cute felt food by Feltalicious. And as the maker points out, zero calories.

soft food

My adult self says "Erin, the last thing you need is a felt version of your favorite foods... try the real stuff, as in go to the grocery store once in a while". My child self says "with a small portion of my allowance I can make yummy toys that are huggibly delicious". I'm not sure who to listen to. Scenarios involving fuzzy fabrics generally win.

For those less conflicted you can go to July Hobby's Etsy and buy your own set of patterns.

muppet face off

In my world most roads often lead back to Muppets, or can if I search the internet long enough. While writing that last post I couldn't help but hazily remember a Muppet sketch (either Sesame St. or The Muppet Show) where a puppet's eyebrows came off. In attempting to jog my memory I unleashed more than I could have imagined. I am not sure if I have found the actual clip that I was initially thinking of, but all of these finds more than compensates. There is also a whole Wiki site about this!

Also check out the Vendaface and for something TOTALLY different, Xiu Xiu's "Muppet Face".

feeling felty

Seriously, how is this not the coolest stationary ever. Yes, I have an extreme felt fetish which has been chronicled for quite a while, BUT Something's Hiding in Here's little note card feels like a stroke of sweet genius never-the-less. Their products are preciously delicious (which is much like magically but more endearing). You can browse their products here or check out their blog here.

plush motivation

I like felt and I like clever motivational signs so this pillow by Alexandra Ferguson is a win/win. I am worried however that I might be tempted to lay down on it, and then game over. If you have more will power you can purchase it on her Etsy site.

lazy felt

If you are equally (and bizarrely) obsessed with all things felt, like I am, then here is a project for you. As deemed by the crafter, it's The Lazy Girl's Guide to Felting Rock.

Now you can be foxy(er) with a clean conscience. The retro felt pelt accessory can be found here, along with many other things you don't need... but might make you happier.

you look good enough to eat

My friend Seana's foray into the world of puppet making. I'm pretty impressed and not just because this was her first effort. I've never seen a hand sandwich. I love when an idea just becomes. Borderline ridiculous but 100% darling genius. And it comes with cheese!

muppet jewelry

It's no secret, I have a pretty unhealthy obsession with felt. Something about it makes me smile and automatically feel better when I see it. Many of my tastes and preferences seem to be rooted in my upbringing. What exactly happened, I have no idea. In this case I can only speculate that Sesame Street was involved somehow. I don't think a fondness for "puppet skin" counts as emotional scarring right? So I may be weird, but at least not traumatized.

Colleen Baran makes jewelry that was made with me in mind (unintentionally of course). Fuzzy bold colors paired with rings, earrings, and necklaces. You can check out her Etsy shop here. Not for everyone, but perfect for those with particular tastes.
