Elle Girl Korea

A bit late in posting this, but my 12 Steps were featured in the September issue of Elle Girl Korea. It's a nice slick magazine and I'm super proud to have been included.

A few months ago I did an interview for IdN Magazine and it just came out in their January Minimalism issue. I'm excited and nervous, but most of all thankful to have been included among the other artists. You can view some of my work that was included here.

america for recovering lazyholic

Ok, you caught me, it's really Austin for Recovering Lazyholic. And honestly it's not even necessarily that. I didn't realize until yesterday, as I was looking at friend and fellow blogger  Jodi's (of Drunk Dial) Facebook that I was nominated for Best Art/Design Blog on Austin Blogger Awards. Thanks internet for keeping me tuned into the world as it passes me by.

I'm both excited and ashamed. Mainly the latter, because I'm about the most predictably sporadic poster, at least lately. I'm about 95% undeserving but shoot I'll still bask in the dim limelight and ask for people's votes (and appreciate that someone bribed these guys to include my site). So I don't expect to win a thing, but might as well try and get a vote or two in an effort to get back on the straight and narrow of doing.

Austin Chronicle Best of 2010

I'm pretty excited (and a VERY surprised) to see my name in the Chronicle's annual Best Of issue. I'm also extremely grateful that someone likes Recovering Lazyholic and deemed it worthy of sharing with the locals. Me and my work were given the Critic's pick title of "Most Artistic Motivator". Shoot, I'll take that. It's a nice kick to motivate MYSELF... not sure how artfully though.

I'd also like to congratulate my friends Jodi and Emily for their new baby Drunk Dial getting some critic love, as well as my friend Ben for his Burger City accolades.

I am so thrilled that this photo was included in the latest issue of Slice Magazine. It accompanies Crystal Wilkinson's amazing story Holler. Please pick up a copy and read her work as well as the other super talented writers that were featured.

Here's a quick excerpt of Holler:

Tallboy is my brother-in-law. He is six-foot-five, pock faced, and wears a Reds baseball cap pulled down over his eyes. All you can see is a little bit of his broad nose and headphones wires snaking down his bird chest. We all grew up together and I remember Tallboy before he found Mr. Jessie out in the field, before he went a little off and Miss Mattie had him committed to the state hospital.

Sarah Fox, of Apothecary Fox, was kind enough to post some of my work as well an interview with me on her blog. I always feel a bit ridiculous when I talk about myself... but clearly not enough to you know, not do it. I really appreciate Sarah's generosity and support in thinking of me for her "House Calls" series. Please check out her site for other artist profiles; there's some good stuff.

uppercase issue #3

I am so, so excited to be a part of Uppercase Issue #3. I have been/am a long time fan of their website (and shop/publications). For their most recent magazine they asked for submissions for a "Cover Me" project. Folks recreated an album cover in hopes of getting it published.

I did Jon Spencer Blues Explosion's "Now I Got Worry", mainly because it's a phrase that lives on repeat in my mind and at the same time (conveniently, and secondly) is a terrific record.

You can view a lo-res on-line version of the issue here but really you should lay down the cash for a copy you can spend some time seriously perusing. By the looks of things Issue #3 is, not surprisingly, full of great content.

I am flattered and excited to have some of my work and an interview featured on fellow Austinite Tolly Moseley's site, Austin Eavesdropper. The latest issue of Carpaccio Magazine is available and I am lucky enough to be one of the photographers in it. There are some really, really amazing photos and illustrations featured, so please go check them out here (it's FREE). I particularly like Gregory Dryapack and Charlie Engman.

need to want less: companionship pt. 2

I am really excited to be able to offer one of my Need/Want designs. As much as I don't feel comfortable giving myself a pat on the back, I really can't deny that it makes me happy if something I make makes someone else happy (so many "makes" and "happy" in there). So even though I feel like I make silly things I guess at least a couple people like them.

If you happen to be one of those people you can purchase it at Wall Blank. It comes in two sizes (at a very reasonable price). You will please Biggie and Boo (my dachshunds, little friends, cuddle bugs, and the source of much hilarity) and me too, allowing me to continue to pay bills and all that fun stuff. I am so bad at self-promotion, but apparently have no problem with guilt trips. And on that note, if you perchance missed your opportunity to buy my previous Wall Blank print (the horse in the field... for some reason I do not believe in photo titles yet my other junk feels naked without one), you can buy it again. bored issue #2

A couple of my photos (the two on the right side) were included in Issue #2 of the British zine Bored?. You can find the other photographers featured as well as a link to purchase a copy here. Don't buy it for me, buy it for the maker... it's pretty darn cheap.

I can feel the laziness subsiding, thanks in large part to my new Sponsor guiding me through my affliction. Like anyone else in recovery, support makes all the difference. Kseniya Yarosh (aka Ksen) is a Brooklyn based artist and blogger that specializes in making zines. My favorite is the I Love Bad Movies issue (I can't wait to get my mitts on a copy). Thanks Joscha Bruckert for including one of my photos in the latest issue of Romka magazine! I think it's a great idea for a publication, photos that are personal favorites rather than an image that is considered to represent the best of your work, and I'm glad to be a part of the project.

brandi strickland

Brandi Strickland is a super gifted artist. I especially love her mixed media work and illustrations. There is something sweet about many of her pieces, without being too cute or precious. It's colorful sincerity. She also is generous in spotlighting other people's work on her blog. In fact she was nice enough to give me a shout out today which I'm really grateful for... laser visions

While I'm going back in time this seems like a good pit stop. Never has a site deserved the "photo magic" tag more. We Have Lasers is some delicious eye candy. I'm just sad that I never got a portrait like this. The wound has been reopened. Thank you Lindsey and thank you for this!

The cyber world has been good to me again thanks to artist Will Bryant. I know I have been going on and on lately about the nice folks that I have been meeting/admire, but you will have to deal with the mention of one more. Truly, what I have gotten to know about fellow Austinite Bryant is nothing but great. He recently was a guest poster on My Love For You is a Stampede of Horses and featured some of the stuff I have made.
