wiener wednesday

Apparently the great Gaines-burger shortage of yore didn't make it to the history books. This crisis is news to me. Thankfully the legions of dachshunds were able to carry on.

kiss radio

I know just yesterday I posted something from I Believe in Advertising but when I saw this campaign I couldn't resist referencing them again. I guess this is a sign that there is growing trend towards that old matchbook look that I love so much. It's hit the mainstream, and with most things that we love we are happy but a little bummed that we'll have to share our adoration or that it will somehow lose its punch through over-saturation. Anyway I this series of posters for Kiss radio is great. I'm not totally sold on the addition of their logo... seems out of place and throws things off, but meh I can ignore it. See the rest here.

shake it, don't break it

I like the style and direction that this ad campaign for Dramamine went with. I don't think I would have ever associated funny with motion sickness meds until now. More after the jump...

vintage ad browser

Vintage Ad Browser is my new favorite website. It's pretty crude and many of the images are lo-res, but once you get past that there is a wealth (100,00+) of old print ads to waste time looking at.

wiener time

Now it's time to cool off. I'm sorry, but this is pretty adorable. I'm pretending that my dachshund adoration isn't always transparent.

tanfastic

Tanfastic

This brand sounds familiar. I think it's safe to say it's not around anymore, but I wonder if it was still working its magic cancer advancement spells in the 80's. Right about now I could go for some Sun In and neon Zinka.

get a man with sandwiches

My friend Bannister sent me a link to Mod Cloth's Vintage Sexism page which is how I found this great ad/hot tip. So all you single ladies, get to making some sandwiches.

now going down smoother

From what I've read around the 'ole internets some folks aren't a fan of the direction that New Belgium has taken with their series of redesigned labels. When I saw Ranger in the store the other day, I however honed in on it. Yes, they have sort of abandoned the more traditional packaging of yore but I think this minimalist approach is just as effective. Bonus, the beer is pretty yummy too. Or maybe that should be the other way around...

By the by, their reasoning for the change in their words:

Introducing our Beer Ranger inspired, greatly desired Ranger IPA. While IPA is not a Belgian style, and our brewmaster prides himself on not brewing to style but to the imagination and salivation, we agreed that a deliciously hoppy offering was in order. To introduce this departure in style, we decided to take the opportunity to depart from our current packaging themes as well. It also provided the perfect opportunity for us to re-introduce some of our treasured Belgian beauties.

For the full series check out New Belgium's site.

the a frame

Note to self: this has been done, and done, and done. Do not do. The categorizing fiend in me loves this collection though. And I like confirmation that the leg shot is all too familiar.

pieces of charlie

Speaking of Charlie... I remember when I was a little kid he was kind of a big deal, as much as an animated spokesperson (spokesfish?) can be. When doing a Google image search I found a bunch of merchandising treasures, one of which was the above scale. I have to have this, that's all there is to it (although "sorry charlie" is a bit of a discouraging message when checking your weight). I also found a Pez dispenser, however could only find it on one site so I'm not sure how legitimate it is. And how about a lamp, a camera, a watch, a motorized tape dispenser and on, and on, and on...

Buy your own scale here.

in and out

I think this ad might be on to something. I'm going to have to try it out... the double bowl system, not the laxatives.

This image is part of a campaign which I found over on I Believe in Advertising. Some comments on this post made me laugh because they can't laugh about it. Yeah it's silly, but come on... just a chuckle at least?

laziness rocks (urgh)

This ad campaign for the Ministry of Health is pretty great. “Sedentary people can’t run away from diseases. Exercise.” Step #8, or you'll turn into a sick rocking chair. The truth isn't pretty.

1986's ears are burning

Here we have a clear Nikon D80. I know nothing about it but that it's Japanese and it's clear. One of those you could have deduced on your own.

It takes me back to the see through Swatch watch that I always wanted. I smell a trend coming back. Yes!
