• I have fond memories of watching 60 Minutes as a child with my parents. Maybe that's odd... I don't know. One segment I could always rely on enjoying was Andy Rooney's closing. Salty and big-browed, I was transfixed not so much by his image, but his insightful reflections on the everyday. He seemed simultaneously bothered by and beholden to the world around him. He's someone I wanted to know, but would be too afraid to talk to. I think his passing is a very unfortunate for us all. 
• Another childhood love was Woody Allen. I'm creating a detailed map of my upbringing aren't I. Aside from his tabloid dramas and possible strange personal life his movies and books are some of my favorite things. I'm really looking forward to the PBS documentary about him.
• Glee clubs... not so much. Glee clubs singing punk covers...  yes, please. A standout track is Dead Kennedys' "California". 
• 52x52 is a wonderful project developed by artist Jessica Hische. The object is recruit folks to commit to donating $52 every week for 52 weeks to charity (a suggested charity, or one of your choice). The really great part is that you can also choose your own dollar amount if $52 is a bit too steep (which it probably is for quite a few/most people). Giving to others really couldn't be much easier. 
• If E.A.S.T. Austin Studio Tour is something up your alley then you've probably already heard about it. So consider this a reminder, not a revelation.

lazy sunday

obsessions

While I haven't had time to get much done I've somehow carved out enough space in my brain to obsess over a few things. Part of me knows I've got to move on, while another part of me can't let go until I completely wear out my love for this stuff.

Broken Social Scene's "Sweetest Kill". The artwork (above) is pretty great too.

Trailer Park Boys on Netflix. I'm not sure how we stumbled upon this, but it's been a favorite since. We're even going to their live performance next month. What that will consist of I have no idea. I'm pretty sure I can count on thick Canadian accents, kitty talk, and cocktails in hand.

Search of the Day. My new job has me diving into the world wide web deeper than I've gone before. As my new mission carries on I discovered this site by a co-worker. It highlights some of the dumbest things that people search the internet for.

This guy's posters on Ebay. Don't buy them. When I win the lottery they will all be mine.

I'm catching up with the rest of the blogging world and finally posting something about the site Project 33. As a die-hard lover of colorful shapes (why does that sound weird?) and vintage illustrations I have just fallen for this slice of heaven. There are lots of album covers to peruse. You can even search by shape! Yes, I like this. You can tell by the exclamation mark. Also be sure to check out sister site Groove is in the Art for more psychedelic entries.

unwelcome guest

I probably shouldn't reveal this, but as is my way when at my wits' end, I unload... and now I confess to having a mouse/rat that has decided my home is his. My critter loving side has grappled with the methods I should use to get rid of himthem, but I simply can not share my space so they're out of here. I wish we could be friends but there are a few simple rules that are being ignored. Before I get into some sort of Willard showdown anyone got any tips?

I'm going to sound old here... but I can't keep up with technology. Where I'm getting left behind is the $$$. Thanks Apple for coming out with something better, stronger, every, say 6 months (I'm not keeping track anymore), however my tapes and CD's and records, and even 1st generation mini iPod still play. That said, if I had the money I'm not sure I could resist your twinkling lights and 1,000,000,000G's. Sometimes it's good to be broke...

game night!

I'm so thrilled about my recent partnership with Austin record label Artifact Workshop and musician Neiliyo. I made the poster and graphics for the "album" (see below). Tomorrow is the CD release party at Club DeVille and it should not disappoint. Between AW's atypical (and creative packaging) and flair for creating an interactive experience, and Neiliyo's non-stop explosion of pastel energy will be a night to remember.



The CD's tracks will be available through a time-sensitive link which is printed on one-of-a-kind slap bracelets (which I have blurred in the above photos). SLAP BRACELETS! I never dreamed that anything I made would appear on such a tacky (in a good way) relic of youth, but I am elated. Seriously. The theme for the evening is "Game Night", which ties into the album, and a variety of games will be happening throughout the evening. Hopscotch, telephone, musical chairs, spin the bottle are the featured attractions, but I believe board games will be available as well. ready to ride

I was graciously gifted a bicycle for my birthday... in JULY. Thanks to my ever-generous father it is now at home with me. I'm so excited! I want to ride my bicycle.

This is what happens when you make something VERY quickly. No matter...

The holidays are well underway and whatever your stance, whether considering the origins, the corporate sponsorships, the overeating, or sporting events, there is some little good nugget to take from each one of them. Personally I know that I have shown a few chinks in my armor as of late, but in a continuing effort to ditch the wah brigade I am happier to think about the best parts of Thanksgiving. So much could be better, but SO much could be worse and I am thankful for everyone of those people, places, and things that make life worthwhile. I sincerely hope that each and every one of you has a great day today and are able to spend it with friends and/or family.

I saw this book cover over on Milk Tooth's Rain the other day and was instantly smitten. Yay for big words and straightforward (near childish) illustrations. Bonus, it may actually provide useful information INSIDE. I know... weird, a book that includes informative contents. This book also conveniently provides a fluid segue to my current favorite song.

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros' Home. If you're not smiling after a listen then you are clearly a robot. Actually, make that a broken robot because this song even manages to break through the metal skin of my most androidy days.
